idaho-travel.com going to auction

Hi everyone. This is a first for me – I have a domain name going to auction on bid.

The auction starts on 12/13/2010.

It’s a geo domain – idaho-travel.com. As near as I can tell, all the combinations or a state name or state name abbreviation combined with the word travel are taken in the .com extension.  The reserve price is set at the minimum $38. If you like the name, you can bid on it here.

Names I Renewed and Why

I’m beginning this new thread in my blog partially to talk about some of my “better” domain names and partially as a means of positive self-reinforcment. As my domains pop up for renewal I have to make a difficult, gut-wrenching decision of whether to renew them or not. Often I use a measure of traffic and revenue to make the decision, and other times I use a “gut feeling” approach. Nothing scientific – just great keywords, great sound, or ???

The domain I just renewed that I want to justify is BondFund.info.

To me it a a popular subject matter with an appropriate extension. Now I am not a financial guy and do not know much about bond funds, but if I was going to search for info I think that “bond fund information” would be a logical search term to type in, and a great site to look at further.  According to estibot the term has 4,400 exact searches and and an average cpc of  $6.64. The .com is valued at $15K, while the .info is valued at $500. The other major extensions are pretty much parked. My options are a mini-site or a sale to a real financial institution.

I think I will go the mini-site route with a $1,500 asking price. We’ll see.

BayMD.com is available

Here is a great name for someone – baymd.com. So if you are a doctor who happens to have the last name of Bay – here is your chance to own a custom name for your practice. Another thought is to use this name for a medical group – such as a doctors association in San Francisco, etc. Contact me if interested.

Domain Buyers Group – Success

This is a short update about our domain buyers group. While the details are confidential, our group has located and purchased a true premium domain name. We worked hard and came together well – and agreeing on the name, negotiating a price, and making the purchase. Our next steps are researching potential end users and beginning the process of marketing the name. Stay tuned for more on this endeavor.

Domain Buyers Group – Continued

Well, we’re moving forward with our domain buyers group. After a LOT of back and forth about the application and registration document we are required to agree to, we finally are off and running. Domain name is set up, paypal account is set up, and a number of people have provided their funding. Our goal is to be running by the end of January. We’ll keep you posted about the progress we are making.

An aside here – spammers – we are using a great spam filter, so don’t bother. I just hit all delete all spam and Poof!

Domain Buyers Group

This should be interesting. A forum I belong to is setting up a domain buying club. The idea is to pool small resources into enough to purchase a premium domain. We will develop it and promote it, and sell it to an end user or at auction. This should be quite an interesting experiment. It is an exercise in trust, cooperation, and pooled expertise. I will keep people informed about how it is going.
